Council has received a submission to name the Old Great Western Highway at Meadow Flat to “Karoo Drive”.

The proposed name complies with the Geographical Names Board criteria for road naming, and is acceptable for gazettal by the Geographical Names Board if approved by Council.

from Curly Dick Road to Great Western Highway, Meadow Flat

Proposed Road Name – The history of the area now known as "Karoo" in Meadow Flat is linked to early colonial and coaching inns, with the Durack family's inn and a Cobb and Co depot located there in the mid-1800s. More recently, the property became the location of Karoo Angus, a family-run Angus stud, which began in 1988 when John and Monica Reen purchased the land, eventually replacing the original Hereford herd with Angus cattle and establishing the stud in 1990. The property and the modern Karoo Angus stud are now run by the next generation: John's daughter, Annie Scott, and her family.

Council will accept written submissions to be made on the proposed name up until 4.00pm on Friday, 18th September 2026. Simply complete the feedback form below.

Further information may be obtained by contacting Council’s Infrastructure and Project Delivery Department on (02) 6354 9999 during business hours.
